Project Overview

The Land Far Away: Ecosystems

A stunning interactive table allows visitors to connect the ecoregions of Colorado to the topography of the state.

Near the entry of the exhibit, large-scale environmental graphics introduce overarching themes and set the scene through beautiful landscape photography of Colorado paired with intriguing observations about each of the state’s major ecosystems.

A topographic table draws the eye and the hand. Designed to recall the geologic features of the state, layers of etched acrylic form a topographic map of Colorado. Through two integrated touchscreens, visitors can explore images and information about the major ecosystems of the state and activate LEDs in the table that indicate in which areas of the state that ecosystem exists, sparking an understanding of the deep connection between topography and environment.

The Ecosystems area provides a conceptual bridge to stories of the global reach of the Gardens and sets the stage for the Omniglobe housed within the exhibit.
