Project Overview

Draw the Line

Four polling stations ask visitors where they would draw the line on freedom of expression in dozens of cases related to hate speech, indecency, violence, and wartime censorship.

After selecting one of the censorship categories, visitors work their way through a sequence of cases in recent history that ask them to set limits on the freedom of expression. After reviewing each case visitors decide if it “crossed the line” and then compare their response to those of other visitors that preceded them.
