A responsive media installation honors a legacy of life-changing innovation.
In a new campus hub for employees, Genentech wanted to celebrate its 40-year history of scientific discoveries—but they also wanted to acknowledge the years of everyday grind required of their employees to achieve those biotech breakthroughs. We responded with the “Living History Wall,” an experience that distills epic company milestones into uplifting employee encounters and embeds them into everyday routines.
As employees pass through the lobby of Building 34 on their way to the campus gym or coffee shop, their movement activates content on a large media wall. Images and text combine to humanize the company’s legacy of scientific achievement by grounding it in Genentech’s strong and distinct culture. Content is visible at a distance and purposely bite-sized, just enough to take in while passing by.
If an employee stops and draws closer to the screen, additional story layers surface depending on the person’s proximity. At the most intimate vantage point, employees stand face to face with photos of real patients whose lives were impacted by Genentech’s treatments.
