In 2006 the Portland Armory was reopened to the public after being transformed into a state-of-the-art performing arts facility. Built in 1891 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Armory was awarded the LEED Platinum designation from the U.S. Green Building Council, the highest sustainable design award in the United States. Throughout the publicly accessible grand lobby are interactive media installations that reveal the history of the building, recognize the donors that made the renovation possible, explore the themes of preservation and sustainability, and publish information about the Portland Center Stage season.
