The world’s largest quilt collection is brought together in a patchwork interface where quilts can be collected, saved, commented on, and organized into exhibitions—both on-site and online.
The quilt-like interface of the Digital Collection provides an intuitive visual way to browse the entire collection of quilts in the museum’s database. Visitors can zoom in and out of cropped quilt details and access records with high-resolution images. Quilts can be searched by date, fabric, pattern, region, and technique. The My Collection feature allows visitors to save quilts, add comments to them, and organize them into sets that can be published as Threads—visitor-contributed slideshow exhibitions for all to view. The Digital Collection is accessible online, through stations in the museum’s Digital Gallery, and as a large, touch-driven patchwork projection that allows groups of visitors to see every digitized quilt to scale, in all its richness.
