At once artistic, commemorative, and informational, this interactive table playfully recognizes every individual alumnus of the University.
As an architectural focus at the heart of the UO Ford Alumni Center, this interactive installation is a persistent reminder of the purpose of the building: to serve, celebrate, and cultivate past, present, and future alumni. A constantly flowing stream of currents, the visuals reflect the generations of students that have poured through this enduring campus bedrock throughout its history. Every single alumni—some 240,000 strong and growing—is represented in this searchable touch table.
The table is the same dimension as a Cascade, positioned horizontally just outside the Interpretive Center. Shrouded in the same fir as the descending staircase it appears to flow out of, the Table is an integral capping element to the defining architectural motif cascading through the soaring atrium.
The rivulets of particles playfully respond to the visitor’s touch, redirecting and creating effervescent, iconic Os in the flow. When a visitor touches the UO icon, they reveal an interface where the names of every Duck can be called up and filtered by school or class, or searched by name or activity. When alumni are found, their names, school, major, class, and activities are displayed, as well as a quote or message from those who contribute through the Alumni Association.
